HB feature2.jpg

Here's this week's glimpse into what's happening in our Kids-Niche Programs! These feature lessons, activities, and saunters from a different classroom each week.

Today's feature: Huckleberry's Solar System Unit

Recently, the Huckleberry Class did a unit on the solar system. We learned about the planets, the Sun, the moon and the stars! Over the course of this unit, we explored this topic using scientific inquiry, artistic creativity, dramatic play and storytelling. The primary objective for this unit was to ignite a deeper interest and curiosity about our solar system and our own place in the cosmos.

Learning Objectives

  • Students will understand the relationships between the Earth, the Sun, and the moon.
  • Students will recognize the relationship between Earth and the other planets in the solar system.
  • Students will use their imaginations to create their own stories about constellations we can see in the night sky.
  • Students will explore diverse cultural perspectives on the solar system through mythology and oral storytelling.
Around the campfire, telling our own versions of how the constellation known as the “Big Dipper” came to be.
