Here's this week's glimpse into what's happening in and out of our classrooms in the day school! These feature lessons, activities, centers, and saunters from a different classroom each week.
Today's feature: Steller’s Jays Learn About Hibernation
This month the Steller's Jays have been focusing on Hibernation. Our Dramatic Play center was transformed into a hibernaculum where students can take on pretend roles and situations. Some of our children were bears, foxes, and even dragons!
In the block center we practiced building caves and dens in which for the bears to hibernate. Our students can play cooperatively with others while building some elaborate caves. Some new friendships began over the construction of these caves.
At the playdough table, we made tracks in the snow and tried to figure out to which winter animal they belonged. We even made dens out of snow play dough and used our words to express our feelings and needs at this center.
At the sensory bin we observed objects and events with curiosity while we pretended cotton snow fell onto our winter animals, signaling the beginning of hibernation.
Pretending to be hibernating animals has been our favorite activity so far. Let the winter animal play continue!
