Here's this week's glimpse into what's happening in and out of our classrooms here in the day school! These feature lessons, activities, centers, and saunters from a different classroom each week.
Today's feature: Explorer Classroom Name Study
Each week we get to know our classmates and our letters as we study a new student name. Together, we read the name, spell the name, and sound it out. We also use sign language and visual phonics as we say and sound each letter. We use our whole bodies to learn about which letters are tall, and which are small. Finally, we include the name in a song or other game or activity. We even feature the beginning letter as our star letter for the week. This multi-modal approach is fun and exploratory. It gives us a way to make letters personal to us, strongly reinforces and teaches the alphabetic principle, and strengthens our classroom community!
